Washington Framework for Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling

This page is designed to afford community partners an entry point to the Framework web page. It provides background to the centrality of CGCPs, identifies some of the major benefits of a CGCP, and provides hyperlinks to the common pages accessed by community partners on the framework site.

Working Together

Effective comprehensive guidance and counseling programs (CGCPs) actively seek input and partnerships with others in the community in the pursuit of helping students succeed. Listening to community voice through needs assessments, involving students in local service programs, and collaborating to provide responsive services (i.e. school supplies, outside-school referrals, etc.), are a few examples of how school counselors connect with other systems that impact and influence students.

The Washington Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Framework and the ASCA National Model provide a system that encourages and promotes academic, career, and personal/social development in preparation for the challenges of the 21st century. As stakeholders, community partners share the benefits of this organizational structure. Research supports that comprehensive guidance and counseling programs have a positive effect on schools and communities.
